Emmaus Communion service
This communion was written for the Fresh Expressions Rural conference 2019, where the theme was "What do you see?" We wanted to focus on the idea of Jesus opening the eyes of the disciples as the bread was broken, and also took in elements of Jesus journeying with them and listening to their disappointments. This is also part of our Resurrection People resource in week 3.
It contains a kind of Expression of Faith based on what the disciples say to Jesus, and how Jesus responds to them. It ends with a closing prayer, asking Jesus to continue to open our eyes in our lives.
We had people sitting around tables with bread rolls and wine glasses of grape juice from the beginning of the time. They said their own prayers of thanksgiving around the tables, and served each other. If you wish to distribute the elements in a different way, you can adapt the latter part of this service order, and add in other prayers and songs as appropriate to your context.
If you want to see the other songs and resources we used in the service and conference visit this page.
The PowerPoint files are 16:9 (widescreen) and 4:3, to suit your system. There are blank slides for you to add your own texts and song lyrics.
