A Sitting Story
This is a re-telling of Jesus' parable about choosing a humble place at a wedding feast.
Extract from the script:
One Sabbath, Jesus went to the home of one of the leaders of the Pharisees, to have a meal.
As ever, the pharisees were keeping an eye on him, to examine closely everything he said or did.
What they did not know was that Jesus was keeping an on them, as well. And one of the things he observed was this: They were very keen on where they sat.
The places at the head of the table, the places near the leader, were the most sought after. Jesus watched, amused, as the Pharisees shuffled and paused and adjusted their positions, all in an attempt to sit at the front.
Finally, he told them a story. A story that went something like this:
Once there was a man who went to a wedding feast. When he arrived, he sat himself down at the very best seat in the room.
Before long, another guest arrived, a very important guest. The host went to put him in that very best seat, but found the first man sitting there.
"I'm very sorry," the host said. "But you are going to have to move. This place is for my friend here.
So down the table the first man went. And how do you suppose he felt?...
