Small Wonder - Poem from Psalm 8
This is a poem based on Psalm 8:3-8, where the psalmist asks "who are we?" Dave has riffed on this and produced a thought-provoking poem. We have also produced a PowerPoint version, so you could include this visual element and give the congregation the part in italics.
Extract from the poem:
When we look up at the night sky
and see the breath-taking work of your hands,
we wonder –
who are we that you should care so much for us?
When we feel small and inadequate, powerless and easily swayed,
when we wish we could be heroes,
yet find ourselves adrift in a sea of straying,
we wonder once again -
who are we that you should care so much for us?
When we find ourselves in a land of giants,
when others seem to ignore us, or disregard us,
or let us down,
when we fail to make the kind of impact we long for,
we wonder once again -
who are we that you should care so much for us?
When we hear again that ancient story,
truth and love pinned on a darkened skyline,
a kind, courageous man held before us with three nails,
and we wonder why he would go so far for us, we ask once again -
who are we that you should care so much for us?...
