Come To Me - opening prayer
This prayer is based on Matthew 11:28-30, from both the NIV and the Message versions. It works well to introduce this by asking people how they are feeling, giving them a moment to sense any tension or stress in their bodies. We have taken our time in saying this, giving a moment's space for rest and receiving between each of the slides.
This is prayer can be found as part of our new project The Rest Is Worship as part of the Leaders' Resource eBook.
This can naturally flow into the song "Come All You Weary (For God So Loved)", "Come All You Heavy Laden", or another similar song.
LEADER: Jesus says
“Come to me if you’re weary and burdened,”
ALL: Jesus, we come to you.
When we’re tired, worn out,
burned out on religion,
Jesus, we come to you.
His gentle heart brings rest for our souls.
Lord, we receive your rest.
He leads us in unforced rhythms of grace.
Lord, we receive your rest.
He shares our burdens and walks beside us.
Jesus, help us walk with you.
Teach us to live freely and lightly,
Jesus, help us walk with you. Amen.
