This is a corporate confession prayer based on Numbers 21.The leader may wish to teach the congregational response before leading the prayer. Include an appropriate text of absolution/receiving forgiveness after this prayer.

Extract from the prayer:

Leader: [Read verse 5] 'And the people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food."'
For the times we have not trusted in your promises or followed your word; for the times we have longed to turn away from you and go back to our sin,
Lord, we look to you:
Congregation: Forgive us and heal us.

Leader: [Read verse 6] 'Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.'
For the harm that we do to the world with our selfishness, and for the people who are suffering because of it, Lord, we look to you:
Congregation: Forgive us and heal us.

Leader: [Read verse 7] 'And the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us."'
For the harm that we do with our words, and the people who suffer because of it, Lord, we look to you:
Congregation: Forgive us and heal us...
