Jesus you know
This is a children's or all-age song Sam wrote quite a while ago. It has recently been back in our minds because it is one of our Engage At Home activities. You can listen to the demo track on this soundcloud file below, or sign-in and download the mp3 to take wherever you like.
The song is inspired by the truth of Jesus' full humanity (which obviously does not diminish his full divinity!) It is a reminder that in the incarnation Jesus took on our human weakness, and understands what it is like to be one of us. He was truly tired, hungry, thirsty, and experienced moments of loneliness and other struggles. However, while he suffered the same temptations and emotions, he remained obedient to God, in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is an encouragement that he can be trusted to help us in our weakness (Heb 4:14-15).
This song attempts to condense that rather mind-bending theology into something accessible for all. We hope it is useful! Words are below, and a lead sheet is included in the attachments so you can play your own version.
Jesus you know what it's like to be human,
took off your glory, entered our story.
Jesus you know what it's like to be me,
so I'll trust you, completely, utterly.
Jesus you know what it's like to be lonely,
tired and hungry, excited and clumsy.
Jesus you know what it's like to be me,
so I'll trust you, completely, utterly.
Jesus you know what it's like to be tempted,
yet you were faithful, loving and grace-filled,
I want to see all those things here in me,
so I'll trust you, completely, utterly.
