Revelation 1 Opening Prayer
This prayer is adapted from Revelation 1:4-8. This text has a worshipful feel, with declarations of blessing over one another and praise to God. It has been written to be read by the congregation and leader, and would work well as a gathering prayer at the beginning of a service.

The "seven spirits" in verse 4 is often understood by commentators to be a reference to the "sevenfold Spirit", the Holy Spirit who both resides in Heaven and is also at work amongst the seven churches, so this part has been interpreted in that light.
[ALL:] Grace and peace to you:
[LEADER:] from God who was, and is, and is to come.
Grace and peace to you:
from the Holy Spirit, who is before God's throne and at work in his church.
Grace and peace to you:
from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness,
the firstborn of the dead,
and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us,
and freed us from our sins by his blood,
and made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father,
to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
Look!
He comes with the clouds of heaven,
and every eye will see him -
even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world will lament before him.
Lord our God,
you are the Alpha and the Omega,
who was, and is, and is to come,
the Almighty one. Amen.
