Jesus was on the way - poem
This is a re-telling of Jesus "setting his face" towards the cross in a poetic form (it uses the scan and rhyme of a limerick). It touches on themes of commitment, purpose and focus on God's calling. It could be used when comissioning people or sending them out.
The repeated "chorus" could be taught to the congregation, so that they joined in with it each time. You could make up some simple actions for it.
Extract from the poem:
Jesus set off for Jerusalem.
Jesus was on the way.
His goal was in sight,
no left turns and no rights,
Jesus was on the way.

but they didn't want him to stay.
James and John said
"Send fire on their heads!"
Jesus told them off, straightaway.
Jesus set off for Jerusalem.
Jesus was on the way.
His goal was in sight,
no left turns and no rights,
Jesus was on the way.
"I'll follow wherever you lead me!"
a man in one village said.
"Foxes find rest,"
Jesus said, "And birds nest
but I've nowhere to lay my head."
Jesus set off for Jerusalem.
Jesus was on the way.
His goal was in sight,
no left turns and no rights,
Jesus was on the way...
