Mary and Martha active reading
This is a participative, all-age version of the story of Mary and Martha. Divide the congregation in half, and designate one half as "Marthas" and the other half as "Marys". Lead the appropriate half in their actions.
Extract from the script:
Jesus went to visit Martha and Mary.
Martha welcomed him to her home. (Marthas wave hello).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
Martha swept the floors and made everything nice and tidy for her special visitor (Marthas pretend to sweep, vigorously).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
Martha baked some lovely bread (Marthas pretend to stir batter).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
And some lovely cakes, as well. (Marthas keep stirring).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
Then Martha prepared an entire roast lamb (Marthas put lamb in oven and wipe foreheads).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
Then Martha set the table (Marthas set out cutlery).
But Mary sat down at Jesus' feet, and listened to what he had to say. (Marys put hand to ear, as if listening.)
